Question on partitioning

I was under the assumption that large hard drives had to be setup with multiple partitions to maintain a good performance. I have always done this stretching back to the 90's and thought it was necessary.

I have three drives all spilt with 2 or 3 partitions. Is this still needed today and would I see a performance decrease if I just left them as single partitions. I ask this question because I see a lot of screen shots on this form with 1.5Tb single partitions etc.

there are no performance gains to be had by partitioning.

i use it to keep a tidy filesystem, that's it.

one of my 1.5tb disks has only 30gb free, it's still very quick though as all the files are contiguous.

defragging wins.
