Question on resolution?

Hey guys

Got a question on resolution, getting confused.

Basically I want a new monitor but I want it to be able to play 1080P.

So i've seen monitors that have 1920 x 1080 resolution, which assuming means that it can do 1080P. BUT I've come across monitors that are 1920 x 1200 - does this mean they can still provide 1080P quality?

If yes, if I had my PC on resolution of 1920 x 1200, how would i be certain that the movie is being displayed at 1080P crystal clear video?

You would get black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen, it would still be clear with no stretching.

Does anyone know if the Dell ST2310 23" are any good? Its 23" 1080P HD, 1920 x 1080. Not sure if its any good??? Anyone got any input on them Or the Dell S2409W - 24" 1080P HD, 1920 x 1080

So Dell ST2310 vs. Dell S2409W?
