Basically i have a cheapo student upgrade for Windows 7 64bit, which i have to do from XP 32bit so its a from disk custom install.

The problem i am having is that basically i have my SSD disconnected atm since XP isnt the best thing to use with it, so didnt think it was all that useful, anyway i want to install Windows 7 and the SSD/ with the ACHI setting in bios...but i dont know what order to do this in.

(currently OS is on a 320gb harddrive)

What i have thought about...
1. Restart comp installing the ssd and ACHI in BIOS.
2. Reinstall XP? (not sure if you can install W7 on another Drive and formatting the info on the HDD... don't need anything on it frankly)
3. Restart computer and install Win 7 over XP from disc.

Does the fact that XP will be running without TRIM degrade the SSD too much or would it be fine?

Normally this wouldn't be a problem if i didnt have an SSD and the benefits that turning to ACHI brings, but i have so whatever.

Also i wasn't sure where to put this, but this seems ok.

Or do i follow this http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=444831 and turn on ACHI without having to reinstall XP...though i guess i would have to reinstall it to the SSD still.

Perhaps i should just skip all the heartache and enable it within W7?...hmm

Or
1.Reinstall windows on SSD.
2.Reboot after finish, goto bios and change to ACHI.
3.Boot W7 installation disc and reformat the drive.

Is that it?

I figured it our after a while, its at the bottom of my OP.

The only thing i would like to know is general things to do with an SSD/HDD combo, like the User directory which will always get written to by programs and im not sure id like it being separate from my games/so on.

Does it even matter much?
