If I purchased a i5-2500k and a titan fenrir cooler, would thermal paste already be preapplied onto the hardware?

I am basically wondering if I have to buy some alcohol-based solution / cloth to remove stock thermal compound.

Go to the local chemist and buy small bottle of acetone. Perfume free so do not steal your girlfriends nail varnish remover. Take a little bit of cotton wool and dampen - not pour the acetone onto the cotton wool. Use that to clean the surfaces.

Read up on how to best apply thermal paste. One grain of rice sized amount is perfect.

J Cloths are lint free* and you've probably already got some in the house.

* the "real" ones are, not the ***** supermarket branded ones.

I don't think anyone actually read your original post. Only stock heatsinks come applied with thermal solution. If you are buying an aftermarket cooler, which you are then these are totally clean. You will need to buy some good compound, no need to remove anything as there is nothing to remove :D

haha yeah that was my question
cheers buddy

I use ascetone from work to clean off the old gunk with a glasses cloth. Top tip: don't let the ascetone soak through the table cloth onto your new dining room table or you'll be spending a couple of weeks sanding and varnishing with the wife hovering over you with a meat cleaver. :D

U will need to apply a small amount of tim and spread it with a credit card or something similar to the fenrir to fill the gaps between the base and the heatpipes and then go ahead with the grain of rice on the cpu.
