Question regarding watercooling

Hi,

I was thinking of getting the swiftech H2O 220 watercooling kit for my PC. I am new to watercooling, I just wanted to know if I would still be able to put the PC on its side while working on it while the kit is installed, would this cause any problems?

Also would I have any trouble installing this into an Antec p182 case?

Build your loop outside the case first. Leave it running for 24 hours to check for leaks.

'Then' install it whichever way you want. Standing up, sitting down, upside down, mid air

Shouldnt matter really which way up you put a watercooling set up. As lont as everythings fitted tightly you should be fine.

I would try to keep the res the right way up, but not sure what type it is in that kit, or if there even is one at all

Thanks, but I mean when it is installed and working all okay and say I then wanted to change the RAM, would I be able to put the PC on its side? (Sorry, should have made it more clear)
I just thought this might cause air bubbles in the system (this kit does include a reservoir)

Your options for tilting your case to fit new components AFTER it has been fully bled depends on where you put your res and where the res fitting which goes to the pump is located. Basically you can do whatever you like with your case as long as you don't cause the air pocket trapped in the res to move such that it can get sucked into the pump inlet. However, depending on your loop complexity and radiator orientation, even if air does get back into the loop it may be a simple case of letting it re-bleed when you put the case upright. So if you haven't already bought your components try and imagine where the res will fit in the case and where the pump will go, and then imagine tilting the case about and thinking where the air bubble in the res would go, and for that matter, how an air bubble trapped in the rad would go, which helps how to decide how to mount your rad for successful bleeding.

Do you think that the 'Swiftech H2O-220 Apex Ultima' would be suitable for quiet operation mainly?

Hmmm, the only way it would be semi-silent is if you fitted the radiator inside your case. Not sure how easy (if at all) the radiator will fit inside the P182 without some modifications. You'd better research this to see if anyone has done it.

I have got the same kit with an Antec 1200 (larger) and I could not fit it internally (so it's currently hanging off the back of the case using the supplied Radbox). Therefore, you have to remember that the radiator - which has obviously got 2 x 120mm fans whizzing away - will probably be outside your case producing noise and not be silent.

If quiet running is your aim - less than £100 will get you a second hand passive loop.
Zalman Res1 plus will easily deal with a OC'ed C2D - but not the 2900xt.
Also as the res air pocket is outside the case you don't have any problems laying the case on it's side for upgrades/cleaning etc.

For £200 you could have twin Res'es one for the CPU (inc nb is you wanted) and one for the 2900xt. Or even a konnect-o-matic/cape-corra array,
but that will need more space.

Why do the fans have to be "whizzing away"? Fans are perfectly capable of being silent even when held close to the ear. An externally mounted radiator with 7v Yate Loons will be inaudible.
