Question regarding wiring socket up to switch...

Morning All,

Our wifi in the house is terrible and our TV in the bedroom struggles when watching HD on Amazon.

I have a Switch located in the loft and want to connect the TV to this. So the order will be:

TV > Wall Socket > Switch

The TV will be connected to the wall socket with a Patch cable (obvs!) the wall socket will be wired up as per normal, however the wire from the back of the socket will need to a RJ45 end clipped on. Do I wire as per a normal patch cable or do I copy the wire order on the back of the socket?

568B is used 99.9% of the time. Your wall socket should be the same, upload a photo of it if you like.

This is a typical module.. note the pin numbers.. -the orientation of the pins usually follows this pattern.

Thanks for the reply Bledd. Below is the socket I am using for the bedroom as it also has the ariel point integrated. It has thrown me a little bit with the fact it starts with 2...is this correct?!

I would recommend buying a cheap socket for the second end and terminating the cable there then using another patch lead from the socket.

However just make sure that if you use Orange/Orangewhite on pins 1 and 2 on the unit you show above, that the same orange/orange white is connected to pins 1 and 2 on the other end, alternatively if you use green/greenwhite on pins 1 and 2 you use green/greenwhite on the other end as well.
 
Don't worry about the numbers. Follow the colours marked (the lower set) and you'll be fine.

That's an unusual looking socket.

You don't need to crimp a plug onto the other end of the cable. You can use another faceplate and patch cord.
 
It's fine, what I would do is this..

Get a black marker, and cross out the top line (the A section), makes it simpler when punching down.


Personally I'd just use a better brand of module (CCS). That one looks awkward to work with.
 
It cost me £1.99 and shipped from China!

Also I do think it is also tool less.

I will ignore the diagram on the socket and go with the White/Orange, Orange etc.

Don't ignore the label unless you've proved it to be wrong.

It isn't unusual for numbering on sockets to be a bit strange.

Just follow the colours along the bottom row labelled B.

Edit: That is a really nasty looking socket. Good ones aren't exactly expensive.

I like to live dangerously :D

In other news I have just ordered a wifi booster to fit inside my loft as the wifi in the house is poor, it may be that I can get away with not needing to use this POS socket after all.
 
It is tool-less, and the numbering is correct, the sticker is just shifted over a bit. Use the bottom row for your colour reference, though it doesn't hugely matter if you do one end as 568A and the other as 568B.
