Question to those who use a monitor as a display.

It's a PS3. Connected to the monitor with HDMI (FYI I haven't bought the ps3 yet as I want to get this sorted first). Pc is connected via dvi.

Speakers are creative 5.1's. They all plug into a sub, which in turn plugs into the soundcard via 3 wires.

hmmm, if it is 5.1 there should be one somewhere, that is the problem with these stupid "PC soundsystems", much better with a propper amp and speakers.

But I suspect there may be one on the back of the PC in the soundcard as it sounds like it is soem kind of all in one job.

Another way would be to connect HDMI to TV and then use the optical out from the TV (monitor), but this is no good in your case as you have the output on the PS3 anyway.

The soundcard does have one, so is it possible to connect to that and get sound? and to the above comment. Yes it has speakers, but I have a brilliant 5.1 system versus puny pc speakers.

Another option that may be easier, i have some expensive sony headphones (nice) How could I get sound out of them?

Well I'am gonna just go ahead and buy the ps3. I'am gonna get the shop to chuck in a hdmi and optical cable. Then I'am just gonna have to see what I can come up with.

I'll probable post again here if I come into any probs.

well speakers would obviously be better. As I could just plug headphones into them when needed. But sound of some sort would do.

Going to do this method http://www.overclock.net/playstation/191028-how-play-your-ps3-through-your.html

But instead of all those cables getting a compact adapter

And a coupler.

So basically the component (just the audio ones) connect to the adaptor, which connects to the couple, which connects to the speaker cable. Hopefully giving me 2.1 sound.

Think this will work?
