Didnt this version of the card come in at £399.99 originally? I didn't ever notice it been more? It was certainly £399.99 yesterday & the Sterling has been strengthening last few days & spiked up today & the card jumps £30? Prices now going up when the £ strengthens? We cant win, £ strengthens or weakens the prices rise :)

But what bothers me more is the supermarket tactics "Was £575.99". When? Honestly correct me if im wrong but did this version of the card ever exist at this price? It certainly wasent the last 3-4 days minimum cause i've been watching it tempted to buy if dropped bit more, it was £399.99. Doing this is illegal or at least its certainly unethical. It should be "Was £399.99 now £429.95".

Its up to OCUK what they charge & customers are able to choose & buy as they please but the jumping around of prices & the whole "Was £***.** Now £***.**"" can be very questionable.

Other than that im please to see prices of GTX980ti have been/are on the whole on the downward trend. Just think this "Was & now" thing needs tidying up to be fairer that is all. Noticed a few cards dropping ion price then going back up only for them to quote the Old "Was" prices rather than the fact it has actually just increased in price.

well the 980Ti is at end of life, so nvidia droped the price to get rid of remaining stock, the card probably sold and have like few cards left so the price is up 30£, if they dont sell the remaining at that price they will put it back to 399£.
common practice dont see what's illegal about it, offer and demand.
if you have 400£ to spend i would pick a 1070 instead of a 980Ti.
beside the mouse/pad/toy are probably of crappy quality to even bother.

According to Pricespy, the graphics card alone has been up at the price (on OcUK) of £599.99 http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?pu=3170470

So, stating that a package with a mouse, mat, and toy (?!) like this "was 575.99" is fair.

Yes, thats the original model, not the bundle one which is new.

You're both missing my point really.

Just because the product includes a bundle isnt right to then pretend a price was higher in the past. You cannot sell a product claiming it "Was £***.** Now £***.**" to make it look like your making a big saving if that price was never true in the first place. Otherwise shops up & down the country might as well ly about all their product prices as physiologically you'be been tricked into a bargain which isnt really true because you were never saving that much.

Im not saying the price isnt good, im merely saying you cannot lie about a price. e.g. "WAS...NOW" if that version of the card was never that high in first place. But think it looks unethical to increase a price & then go back to the Old "Was" price. Just bump up the price & don't add the "was..Now" bit til it drops again.

P.S. AlomoX, yes im more tempted by a GTX1070 in all honesty mate, but if the GTX980ti kept creeping down there maybe temptation at some stage to seriously consider it.

Wasnt that bundle on the "today only" special offer though?

I'll knock ocuk when I think they are wrong but you have to expect items on sale for one day on on the This Week only to go back up to their old price.

Yes mate, reduced by 6% from a WAS price of £429.95 to £399. Now its suddenly "WAS £575.99 NOW £429.95" reduced by "25%" it's not very ethical.

It's not wrong either.

It's also what everyone does and what you would do as well if you were running a shop - I still don't get the point of this

**** capitalism? Is that the focus of the thread?

Your missing point to mate. The price can go up & down as OCUK feel fit, it's up to them what they charge my argument is in regards to the "WAS NOW" prices which aren't true or been misused. U can't claim it was £575.95 or whatever if it was never that price.

And in general the graphics cards recently seem to drop in price they use the correct "was now" price" but when it goes back up they switch it back to the Old Old "WAS" price to cover the fact it's gone back up in price which seems a bit unethical. Just my opinion tho. I'm sure supermarkets get in trouble for similar behaviour

But it is wrong. It's never been that price. And again OCUK can charge what they like. Just don't pretend on a price it wasn't. Never mind, we can agree to disagree :) night guys

Hasnt it? I thought until last week all 980ti cards were over £500 and then Nvidia dropped the price? Still £573 on the jungle so I would be surprised if it hadnt been £575.99 on ocuk.

https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices discusses misleading "before & after" or "was & now" prices. Prices shouldn't be misleading! That card has just gone up £30 it hasn't just dropped the best part of £150.

P.s. I know it's Australian link (just quick Google search & grabbed first) but similar laws apply to us as it's basically are legal system being used throughout a lot of the world, or least English speaking world

It was on deal for the day over the weekend so was reduced to £399.95 - know this for certain because:

I wouldn't expect the price to have stayed the same come Monday.

Just so I'm understanding the OP's position, have I got this right?

- MSI 980TI is £575+ for months
- Nvidia launch new cards, then drop the price of all 980TI's by £100-£150
- MSI/Overclockers add a free mouse & mat to their 980TI
- Overclockers have it on the weekend offer at £399
- Weekend offer ends and the price goes back up to £430

And the OP believes that because some free stuff has been added, he no longer considers the card to be the same one that was sold at £575, so is happy accusing Overclockers of illegal (yes, he did use this word) activity?

I can see your logic OP, but personally I think you have absolutely no case to argue here and OcUK are completely right to quote a price that the card used to sell at.

Also, I suspect the "was" price is all automated anyway. You see it on all the this week only and today only deals.

In this case I would wager what's happened is that they put in the lower price when they reduced all the 9xx cards. Giving us the "was 575, now 430" price. Then it went to the today only deal, they stuck in 399 and the system filled in, was 430, now 399. Then once the today only deal went away it went back to the previous "was 575, now 430"

So really its just poor formatting caused by multiple discounts being applied to the same item.

Missing point, missing point, missing point. The £430 price is fine. Charge £450, £480, £500. I don't care. Its up to me or a consumer to buy it at a price were happy with. Its up to OCUK what they wish to charge. I am questioning the use of the "Was Now" advertising.

Yes I used the word "illegal". I don't make the laws in this country. Whether we agree or disagree with it is our opinion however there is a divide between legal & illegal. And by law we all need to follow it. Im questioning the laws in the comparions of the "Was Now" prices OCUK is using. U can check out the laws here. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...12-pricing-practices-guidance-for-traders.pdf

OCUK may not have done anything wrong, Im not a lawyer, but the "Was Now" prices seem to be bouncing all over the place & even after putting prices right back up they then use older "Was" prices to make it more appealing, it does feel a bit misleading when the price has been hiked up yet Joe Bloggs checks the shop out & doesnt realise the price is has shot up £30 not just dropped £150 for example.

Again, NNOOOOO issue with £430, its a fair price in comparison to other traders & again, with the bundle to me its more of a no brainer as to whcih GTX980ti to buy if u want one, however u still need to advertise it within the law.

With your logic we may as well get the GTX480 GTX580 GTX680 GTX780 etc all back in at £400 & say "Was £550 Now £400". Some idiots will fall for it unaware their getting a shafting. Its misleading. Can't defend it cause theyve added a free £2 toy :)

Again, and im really trying to strain this point, im more than happy if OCUK charge £430 for it, charge more if wish, i am making a point of "Was Now" prices. But for all i know they may legally be following the law, in which case, as i said, my opinion is I feel as a customer I was mislead but OCUK havent broke the law so i have to accept it. Im merely raising the issue incase they are doing it wrong
