The OC custom laptops look good for my requirements: 4Gb, 64bit OS, fast CPU etc, but can anyone from OC answer the following (if not I'll send a web note):

1) Are the screens glossy or matt? If a mix, then which models have matt screens? I am after a WXGA+ (1440x900) 15.4", but matt is essential for me.
2) Are there going to be any other models with a 15.4" WXGA+ screen but with a better graphics card?
3) Are the screens CCFL or LED backlit - I presume CCFL?
4) The warranty is stated as 2 years - is RTB or collected, and what's the turn around?

Also I would love to see an option for pixel & sub pixel defect free screens. Some companies offer this at additional cost and I would certainly pay extra for this :)

I don't know about the others as I haven't seen them in the flesh. However, with the Ultima Mobile in mind, these are the answers:

1. Glossy
2. No, as far as I know, the M860TU maxes out with the 9800M GT (now discontinued)
3. I'm fairly sure it's CCFL, but you might want to check that out a bit further
4. I think Mike RMA'd his to get it fixed. You'll have to wait for him to answer (or someone else)

And no, OcUK doesn't offer a 'Perfect-Pixel' warranty. Otherwise I would have got it.

RMA's seem to be 5 to 7 days from one of the emails I got, mine had a few days knocked off that as there were problems present out of the box.

OcUK arrange for collection and delivery.

do they play nicely with linux or do they need a lot of work to get them running well if at all possible ?

Yes, very well - I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10 this afternoon so I now dual boot with a much customized (no eye candy) XP Pro install :D Everything works but I am looking into Nvidia drivers for Linux so I can fine tune things like the refresh rate.

These Ultima Mobile - 15.4" WSXGA Laptops really are superb machines

No idea on the Linux question myself but see this response in the other thread as linked below, it is a response to your original question :)

Thanks for the information.

I did search for answers before posting, but as is often the case the searches either came up empty or with too many results :(
