Might be a daft question but does a 620W PSU use more power than a 400W PSU if they both have the same kit attached to them?

I'm thinking of getting a bigger PSU thats a bit more future proof but don't want my electricity bills to go thru the roof!

Cheers

Correct, the amount of draw on the PSU, dictated by the components, will tell you how fast your electricity meter will spin round :D

The other thing is that not all 600W PSUs are the same - Corsair 600W will power virtually anything, whereas a Q-tec or unbranded equivalent will be lucky to do half that before blowing up and taking half your rig with it!

Thats right, its important to check out the rails on a PSU before you buy it and check whether its a reliable PSU itself. There's plenty of reviews on google and you can always ask on here!

Got my corsair today, it has a 2 pin AC power cable and the sockets are round, do these plugs work with UK power supplys, because ive never seen a plug this shape before.

sorry to tag onto the end of this thread btw.

It also worth noting the efficiency of the PSU.

High quality PSUs tend to not only supply the claimed power but they also supply that power without wasting a whole heap with heat and noise.

No a power supply rating is the maximum load that it can power, not the constant power consumption regardless what is connected.

At least I hope so, it wouldn't be a very efficient design it it did.

That'll be a US plug, didn't you get an adapter with the psu?

where can I get one from ?

and why isn't there a UK plug supplied in the box ?

Shops. Surely if you're into PC's you should have loads space, got a whole box of them here.

Don't know why UK plug isn't included. Oh check the toggle switch is set to 240v, if it doesn't have one check PSU is universal (110v-240v)

I got a spare 1 from an LCD TV, will it work. on the Wall plug end the US cable says 16/250 (16 over 250) but the UK one I found says 10/250 (10 over 250).

Will it explode if i use that UK one, they both say the same Volts and amps on the IEC end of the cable.
