questions and alternative to the surface book?

I need a new laptop for work and as a standard system would select between the thinkpad X1 carbon or more likely the XPS 13.

However, my main use is writing, editing and proofing etc so am considering a 2 in 1. My only use here is reading and proof reading with the pen and I have little need for the rest so want to avoid tablet form just for the sake of it.

If you have a surface I would be interested in answers to the following. I have been to the local retailers to try for myself but they didn't have stock : /

1) I should highlight that I find proofreading on a PC difficult and normally need paper to do this. For this reason I am targeting a high quality screen. How does the screen on the surface book compare to paper. Am I wasting my time here?

2) I can probable only swing the lowest spec surface book. Do people find the small amount of storage a problem?

3) Are there any (non-apple) alternatives to the surface book? I don't like the stand on the surface pro. Looking for a pen ideally.

Honestly I would go for the XPS 13 now, but with two hours of commute each day the surface book could help significantly with productivity.

I'm also curious as to what I am gaining between these two;

LENOVO YOGA 900S (m7-6Y75) vs LENOVO YOGA 710 (i7-7500U).

I believe the i7 is faster. But the 900S appears more expensive. Am I paying for smaller size and display quality?
