right my parts have all turned up now (i7 920, ex58-ud3r, ddr3 1866 ram). now i have done lots of builds for myself but never at this cost, and i do low end new builds at work all the time. but, being that this has cost me a fair bit and i havent done an i7 build (sure its no different but still) so am wondering, does anyone have any pointers for when i put it all together, like remove stock thermal compound and use some paste......
cheers, i know im probably panicing over nothing, but better to be safe.

Presuming you got a retail cpu the heatsink should already have thermal paste on it. It is fine to use but you might get 1 or 2 degrees less with some AS5 or similar.

yeah its all retail. not sure what make i have at home, it came with my iceman or something i have on my Q8300.

I would really suggest investing in a decent heatsink for your cpu,the stock one is garbage,it would be a shame to have all that decent hardware and then be limited by temps if you ever wanted to push the chip a little.

yeah i am aware of that. i have planned ahead and when my Q8300 and E5200 systems sell i will be upgrading my graphics and case, so at that point my HSF will be done too. i was on a very tight budget so i thought i would get the best i could and then do the not so important upgrades later. im sure the i7 at stock will be plenty fast enoguh for the time being.
