Hi there,

I am considering purchasing a X1900XT. However, I am a little concerned about the temperatures they produce. What I would like to know is if it is possible to reduce clocks and voltage in 2D mode to combat to a certain extent the heat they pump out when idle. My room is very small and I don't want it to be uncomfortably hot when I am just surfing the web or watching a film.

Anyone? Thanks.

the card already reduces the clcoks in 2D mode for that very reason. they run very nice and quiet! they only increase speed when in 3D mode.

The noise will probably drive you insane before the heat affects you.

They still whine a lot even in 2D mode and run in the 60-70C range (idle).

Err, mines at 47C idle and 72C (60% fan) full load. And I don't find it noisy at idle, at 100% which I only use for testing it sounds like a harrier jump jet.

I'd say gotta fit a zalman meself. I had an HIS X1800XL and replacing the stock cooler with the v700 cu cooler was a revelation, not only DEAD quiet all the time, but took 12-13 degrees C off the idle AND load temps. If one of these fits me X1900XT which arrives tomoz, then I'll deffo get one.

well you may hear a faint wine, but mine never reached 60 to 70c idle! and the zalman option if it fits would be a perfect partner for air cooling.

I've read that these cards are beyond the Zalman vf700, maybe the new vf900 will be up to it.
