I need to pay someone in Germany for some goods they are making me. I need to transfer payment to them and they have given me details of their German bank account.

They use different bank codes and stuff to what we do in the UK, and consequently it won't allow me to input her bank details in my Barclays online banking so I can send her the money. I can't find anything about it on the Barclays website. Can I go into a bank and instruct them to send to the account?

Thanks.

You will need to speak to a branch to get that done. I would expect there to be a charge too.

You can do it but there will be a charge for the currency conversion and probably a charge for the international transfer.

You may also need additional details apart from what you have so I'd call Barclays and fidn out what you need before you waste a trip.

I paid someone in Germany via bank transfer recently. There will be a charge from your bank, the amount depends on how much you are sending and how fast you want it to arrive. There will also be a charge from the bank in Germany accepting the amount. I think this was pretty much a flat rate unless you are sending very large amounts of cash.

Thanks guys.

The bank adviced me that the amount I want to transfer (only £50) still uncurrs the standard £20 fee, so it's worth trying to find another way of sending the funds. They said it was worth looking at the Post Office for some kind of cheque payment thing.
