Hey guys, been a long time since ive posted on here asking for help, which i suppose is a good sign. got home today after uni, having used my pc at lunchtime and everything was working fine then. Tried to boot up, and pc didnt boot, not even into bios. Instead theres a long beep and a load of random codes being displayed on my mobo (EVGA 680i).

ive noticed that the long beep corresponds with the code 26 being displayed. According to the manual, this is the clock (description - Gen Init onboard clock generator and sensor). Im not too sure what this could mean. I was thinking that maybe the motherboard battery has died as i havent had to change it once in the 3 years or so that i have had the PC.

What do you guys think. I dont want to go out and buy a new battery if this is unlikely to be the problem.

Thanks for your help;:)

bit of research is telling me that you should try reseating the gfx card.. lol
have no idea how it would come unseated but worth a crack?

oh plus this bit i just found in another forum.

*** I call up EVGA tech support, for more details on the vague code 26 explanation "Gen init onboard clock generator and sensor" and am told it a "clock issue", likely caused by a grounding problem. To troubleshoot they tell me that I should remove the mobo from the case and try booting it again!! If that doesn't work they tell me it must be a CPU problem (pins or bad CPU). I then tell them about the slot of the video card making a difference, and they are at a loss. They do tell me that its okay to run the video card in slot 2, so I should be okay. ***

Try using the RAM one stick at a time, sounds like your graphics card might be scrambled.

Normally when the battery dies the system will still boot just wont keep the time.

ff on that mobo apparently means
fully functional.

does it actually come up on screen as code '26' because a lot of other forums have peeps reporting the 26 code then a couple of posts later theyre saying that they just werent looking closely enough and its actually '2b'?

so, let me explain agin, when i power up, it goes through a load of different codes until it makes a long beep, which always coincides with 2b(or 26) appearing, i think its 2b which according to the manual is initialize video. it then eventually goes to ff. i dont know if its just a coincidence that the the 2b and beep coincide:confused:

hey guys. bit of an update on the situation, still need some help though.

Basically, the beep still coinincides with the error code 2b, but this time the final code being displyed is 7f which is check POST error and display them and ask for user intervention'.
so heres what ive done to try and find out what it might be. i have the gfx card in each of the pci-e slots, the code remains the same, and infact, the code is the same whether the gfx card is in or not. i have tried each stick of ram seperately and the code remains the same each time i boot. i have tried another hdd and still no difference.

after getting 7f displayed, if i then press f1, it goes to ff, and if i press delete, the code changes to 01 which is 'reserved' in the manual.

thsi probably isnt looking great. i have no idea what is going on. thye pc has worked perfectly for the last 2 years without any problems and this happens out of the blue without me making any changes at all.any one have any suggestions.

thanks for your help

I found out the problem of 7F with Crosair PC-8500 memory where it hang and will not post.

First you must completely unplugged your power. Wait for couple of minutes for the MB to reset.

Then, plug in, turn on. You should be able to see the post screen saying its entering safe mode. Immediately hit "del" and enter BIOS.

Under Advance chipset, goto memory->SLI-Read Memory.

You must ENABLED the SLI Memory. Doesn't matter which %, I choose 5% and it works okay.

Save and reset. Viola...you have a working machine. I think the thing 7F is complaining because PC-8500 is 1066Mhz but the system only detect 800Mhz. It needs your interference to enable the SLI-Ready Memory.

Hope this helps...

that was ripped from another forum dunno what your specs are so?
lol sorry man i dont have any experience with the board so meh. al lof the following wil lalso be ripped...
lol

hey bro i just had this issue with a client and heres what i got

first off, 7F is a code 680i boards give that means its waiting for user response, turn on your computer, press f1 f2 esc or delete, probably f1 though, and that will get you to FF which is normal operation

the long beep code is probably cause your video card is not getting enough power, or your baord and video isn't

solution: plug in a eight pin to the motherboard, may also have to plug in the AUX molex plug located near your ram...plug in your video cards, you may have a bad six pin so plug in the two molex to 6pin if you have to

try all that and if you still don't get video i'm not sure, i did after that... but as far as 7F, thats not a big issue

does your video work in another system? does another videocard work in your system?

also try just one stick of ram in slot A1 (the one closest to the cpu)

mate i havent got a clue lol. just thinking of ways to help :( can you not RMA it? ;)

thanks a lot mate. yeah, already saw that website, thats where i got the idea of hitting delete and f1 from. i am thining that i may have to rma it.
how long would the warranty on my 680i be. bit worried its 3 years, in which case, i might be all out of luck

so, can anyone tell me how long the warranty on my 680i would have been?

also, im running a e6600 and 8800gts, whats the cheapest mobo i could get away with running these in. I have been out of the loop for a couple of years now

thanks:D

i bought the card in december of 2006. i never got around to registering the card. will i still be eligible for the lifetime warranty?

thanks
