Hi just wanting to check these are ok together,

Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail

and also will Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit , work with this build as its intel memory.(i already own some)

Sorry for all these questions im still new to all this , but im going to use a SSD and a new copy of windows 8 to install on too it , but im wanting to use my old sata hdd from my intel pc which has windows 7 on, im wondering if i can keep all the data on it or will i need to wipe it.

Looks solid, though it'd change that motherboard..

A tip with Piledriver (especially the 8***) is the motherboard mosfets, a motherboard without heatsinks in this area won't be good for overclocking as they may start to overheat and throttle the CPU (for in some intances blow).

And yes Your memeory will work.

Is this a gaming rig? Do you have a CPU cooler?

If Windows is on a separate hard drive, not the main one, you can browse it like a normal hard drive from your new Windows. In the BIOs you can select what HDD to boot from so if you select the SSD the HDD can just be accessed like a secondary drive from within Windows so you can easily backup data :)

The motherboard is good however, it has no heatsinks on the VRMs (the little black squares to the left of the CPU). It's fine for more efficient AMD CPUs but the 8xxx processors can draw a bit of power. If the VRMs get to hot, it can throttle the CPU and reduce the clock speed under load.

I'd personally up the budget a little bit and get this motherboard http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-501-AS&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046

You may be fine with the Gigabyte one but for 8xxx CPUs it's a worthwhile investment to get a motherboard with some sort of heatsink on the VRMs:)
 
Thanks for the replies, yes its for gaming , i was going to use the cooler that came with it as i don't really tend on overclocking it , is there a motherboard that does not need the bios update as ive seen people mention it on the comments.

Since Piledriver came out a while ago now it's likely any new board you buy will have the updated bios. It's a gamble, though.

If you do need to update the BIOs, which is unlikely, I believe you can buy a cheap Sempron then send it back under DSR for a refund. Not 100% sure on that though :)
 
Would one of these be any better then the first one i said, ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX ,

MSI 970A-G46 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
 
You definitely need to change the board - that one will throttle even at stock clocks.

If you're not overclocking then you can really go for any of the boards that have VRM heatsinks. If you do want to overclock, I'd recommend the Asus 970 EVO R2.0, as it has the best reputation of the lower priced boards.

You will be able to run the board without updating the BIOS, but it should be the first thing you do.
 
Thanks for the help im just going to be a pain and ask if this would be better for games instead of amd im wanting to order today ,

would this be better ? i wont be overclocking.
