So, i'm looking at a new X99 system, and currently thinking about the following:

Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Intel X99
Intel i7-5820K
Kingston Fury Black 32GB
Alpenföhn Olymp Twin Tower High Performance CPU Cooler
Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe

I was thinking of the X99P, but leaning back towards the Champion now it's back in stock (gotta like the orange!).

Mainly wanting to check that the combination of board/memory/heatsink is ok (both in terms of compatability with the mobo, and clearance with the non-subtle heatsink). I wasn't sure whether to go for the Fury RAM or some vengeance lpx, but the Kingstom has a pretty nice price at the moment.

While i'm at it - is there any gain to be had from 3rd party thermal paste over the Alpenfohn stuff included with the Olymp these days? I thought I had some artic silver left over from my last build, but I can't find it, so...

Thanks.

gelid is meant to be good and it comes with a little spreader so u not picking it from under your nails for 3 days

I did at one point have a watercooled Q6600 (with custom/thrown together bits).
Worked quite well, but was a bit of a pain when moving about etc. On the other hand, as you say it is less ridiculously huge.

I did actually have a look at the H1200 thread where setter mentioned getting better temps than with a mount doom, which is nice. Depends how worried I feel about possible leaks I suppose.

As it happens, I am actually thinking about replacing my old CM Stacker case with something newer like an Enthoo Luxe or a 750D AirFlow, so that would have top mountings....
Also thought about a Define, but I don't think it'll have enough space for the EATX mobos?

According to the product information, the Define XL will take an E-ATX board.

I've got one of the Asetek 240mm AIOs on my 5820K. I was initially very nervous about putting anything containing liquid near my PC. 3 months in, I'm very happy with it and I've just bought an H600 for my m-ATX build...

On the paste front, I've got Thermal Grizzly on my 5820K and it's great stuff. It definitely seems better than the tube of Prolimatech PK-1 I've got.

Oops, it was more specificallyt the Define S i was thinking of (No need for lots of drive cages now, and I thought the space was nice).
The GFX card is a 290X Vapor-X, so it also needs enough width for that.

Thought I'd pretty much decided, but now i'm thinking of something like

Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Intel X99
Intel i7-5820K
Kingston Fury Black 32GB
Antec H1200
Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe
Enthoo Luxe

Anyway, might see about getting over to the shop and having a look at some cases.

Ok, went to the shop and got all the bits mentioned above besides a case (I attempted to get a black/orange Enthoo Primo, but was told they couldn't find them in the warehouse :-( ).

Gotta do something about that, and then get it together.
