I'm writing up a revised CV and have been told to keep it short, punchy and no more than 2 sides of A4.

My question is if I have a fairly long work history (I'm 31), how do I keep my work history short and to the point ?

I'm currently running 3 pages which includes 6 or so different jobs and the duties I was required to perform, plus a separate page for my references.

So thats 4 pages

Any tips on keeping it short and to the point ?

I wouldn't be overly bothered about keeping it to two pages, especially if you have a reasonable amount of relevant job history. My CV is four pages these days, mostly because I have seven jobs on there that all have some relevance to what I'll be doing next.
I think three or four should be about the limit though. I've seen some CVs for roles we're currently recruiting for and the ones that are seven or eight pages long are almost always discarded.

Thanks a lot, I'm happy with 3 and it doesnt look too cluttered

Mine's going on to 3 pages now - keeping all the pertinent positions I've held and removing the pointless bits which I can bring up at interview. It's hard though, so I feel your frustration - however, don't try and cram it onto 2 and sell yourself short if you've got enough content for non rambling 3 pages then go for that.

Keep it to one page unless it's a skills CV, you only really want your most recent and relevant for the job you are applying for. I'd say around 3 max depending on the length of employment.

You also don't need references, date of birth (stops discrimination in some jobs) they will be asked for if needed.

What are are you applying/working in? I design 'graphical' CV's which really stand out if the employer has a bunch of them to go through. Seen far too many people with the typical boring layouts made in word.

Here is one good example, although the design is terrible it works very well for a marketing job.

A CV on 1 page, after having many years in industry in numerous large corporations? Nah, 2 pages (3 at a push) is perfectly acceptable.

Dark, mine, like others have said is 3 sides currently and I've never failed to get an interview (or be offered the job) with it so I wouldn't worry about the 2 side rule. As long as you keep your job history relevant and punchy you'll do just fine.
Also, as has been said, definitely ditch the references!
Good luck with your job hunt if that's what you're going for!

What kind of roles have you done which require a 3 page CV? With a few notable exceptions, a 2 page CV is standard and anything more is typically due to poor CV writing rather than presenting essential information.

Also cheat slightly and use narrow markings, and the blank lines between paragraphs set the font size to tiny

You save a little space but it might be enough once you have also condensed the information
