Quick CV Question

Tbh I think the length of CV all depends on the industry, and would say anything between 2-4 pages.

I'm an ERP consultant, and potential employers want to know what projects you've worked for etc. So my CV tends to be 3 pages long. That's with me cutting out any irrelevant projects.

I'm writing up a revised CV and have been told to keep it short, punchy and no more than 2 sides of A4.

My question is if I have a fairly long work history (I'm 31), how do I keep my work history short and to the point ?

I'm currently running 3 pages which includes 6 or so different jobs and the duties I was required to perform, plus a separate page for my references.

So thats 4 pages

Any tips on keeping it short and to the point ?

Just include the most recent and relevant employment history. Anything unrelated to the potential job holds no information.

Also people tend to fill their CVs with useless junk like driving license/clean driver history when they apply for jobs unrelated to driving.

Other common mistakes include DoB, gender, fax number, primary school, GCSEs/a levels when possessing a BSc or masters even. Listing useless sports and hobbies like gaming or stamp collecting, "socialising" ( read getting drunk and turning up to work hungover).

Also no one wants a detailed chronology of everything you did. They want to know what skills, abilities, knowledge, experience ypu posses that is relevant. Employment history should list accomlishments and responsibilities, not a job spec filled with inane tasks. Also, much of what you learned at a job should come undersome geberal skills list, not be listed for that one job.

Name should be prominent but contact info listed as header/footer or a box at the top right etc so it takes no real space.
Also bullet point and use keywords, you can get sway with 3 or 4 columns of straight facts taking up 2-3 lines.
