Hi,

Ive ordered some autoglym super resin polish to polish my car and just noticed in the ebay description I'm supposed to put autoglym Extra Gloss over the top of the polished paint. What i had gathered from looking on the net was to polish the paint and then use wax over the top which is why i ordered some collinite 476s. Would i get away with just polishing and then waxing or would it be better to get the extra gloss as well?.

SRP and EGP are matched products so they are made to work together (in theory).

Also, EGP isn't a true wax, it's a sealant. You can use both a wax and EGP after using SRP but I'm not sure in which order. Hopefully someone will come and tell you that.

Would it be possible to cut the Extra Gloss out and just use the collinite wax over the polish, thus saving me another £8?. I'm hoping so as Ive spent a fair bit now getting everything I'll need. If the results would be noticeably better with the Extra Gloss I'll get it.

Yes you can. You'll probably see better results with Collinite as EGP is only a protectant, it doesn't add anything to the look of the paintwork.

SRP's an excellent off-the-shelf product btw, I'm sure you'll see great results.

Excellent :). Ive got microfiber cloths and megs foam applicator pads, which would be better to apply the polish.

This is what i am planning on doing:

Wash
rinse
dry
clay
scratch removal (megs scratch X)
polish
wax

is this OK?.

Thanks

Nice plan, but wash it again after you've clayed it. Best to start polishing with a clean slate.

I'm a fan of applying with applicators and buffing off with MF's. So that's what I'd recommend. :)

Thanks for the help :). Ive got a few days off next week so hopefully the weather will stay fine.

This isnt a detailing question more a polishing one ;) :p (before the naysayers get in here!)

Ive used the SRP----AG-----C476 combo before and ive also used the SRP----476 combo, and theres no discernable difference.Collinite is ace tho, lasts for such a long time, mines lasted like 6k miles (4 months, and its still going strong, ive applied some wax for the winter now tho.

SRP is awsome stuff, gets a bit dusty but with microfibre towels your sorted.

Should have got some G3 instead of the megs scratch x, supposidly you will be there all day with it.

Remeber when polishing that your ment to polish untill it goes clear rather than white.

With this weather if you have time, could be worth two coats of collinite, the stuff is meant to be awsome.

you could come give us a hand with mine :p i'm off next week, and it's getting a few mechanical bits done but going into the bodyshop to get my sideskirts sorted (being so low they take a lot of abuse) and my bonnet resprayed.....after that it's gonna need a good polish!

:p

Tom.

surely this is just polishing and waxing.... not detailing

detailing is for the loser with too much time on his/her hands :p

:p

Im not sure i would bother with Scratch X. It really does take a lot of time and a lot of effort. I hope you're in good shape physically! :D

SRP is probably one of, if not the best off the shelf polish for application by hand. Contains fillers which lessen the severity of any swirls in your paint, like others have said dont worry about the Extra Gloss sealant. You'll be fine stickng collonite over the top of SRP.

Excellent, thanks for the help, glad i went for the SRP now. Its a shame about the Scratch X, it cost £7 as well :(, i read a few threads on detailing world and a few people said it was good stuff. Whats recommended for removing scratches and swirls by hand then?.

Would it be worth getting some G3 and selling the scratch X on ebay or something then?. Ive had a look online and the cheapest i can find is £10 plus delivery for 500ml so its not cheap.

The paint isn't really bad but when the sun hits it i can see quite a lot of swirl marks and the odd deeper scratch, especially around the handle area.

The car in question is a x reg Ford Focus in metallic black if that helps.

Looking at the weather at the moment i don't think we'll be doing much polishing :(. What happened to your bonnet?, looks spotless in the pics Ive seen of it.

:) My goods have turned up at last, hope i got all the right stuff in the end.

Megs lambs wool wash mitt
Tesco Microfiber wash mitt
Tesco Peach Skin microfiber polishing cloths
Megs gold class shampoo
Megs quick detail clay
Autoglym super resin polish
Collinite 476s wax
Car Plan Black Trim Wax (not sure about this stuff, i just picked it at random :o)
Megs Scratch X

The strange thing is i haven't been charged for any of it yet, well apart from the Tesco stuff but i just added that to my mums shopping :D. I paid for the rest with paypal and its been 20 odd days since i paid and still no charge on my bank account. In my PayPal account it says payment complete .

mark i added you to msn like 2 weeks ago and you're still showing offline despite the fact that you just posted?

Really, hmm i cant see you on my list, I'll try adding you later on. Ive just got to pop out and pick my brother up, he seems to think I'm a cab driver .

Didn't mean scrath x was bad mate, I would just prefer some G3. Never used scratch x myslef. Theres a really good guide on the megs forums on how to use it though.

Now we need pics of the car! ;)
