Hi.

There is a Domain name I want to buy for something in the future (next 6 months)

I will have to find someone in the future though to build and make me the website.

But as for the name.

www.joeblogs.co.uk (not really of course joeblogs) is for sale @£5.98 for 2 years on 123.reg.co.uk

Can I just buy it now from them or who should I buy it from?

I just want to ensure I have it for the time being.

Then am I right in thinking whoever makes me the website can use that .co.uk name I just bought for the web site?

Thanks.

Just wasn't sure WHO to buy the name from on the net as new to this.

Just register it now and leave it parked with whichever domain registrar you use. Personally I have not had any problems with 123-reg and currently have half a dozen (personal) domains with them, as ever YMMV.

This^^^^.

Just grab the domain from 123 Reg for now and put it on the back boiler.

Then when whoever you get to work on your website can use the domain. If they are hosting it for you as well all they will do is log into your 123 Reg account and change the nameservers to point at their hosting.

Simples. :)

It's actually not a bad idea to keep them separate register domains with company A) and host the site with company B). ;)

Buy it. Its much better practice to keep domains and hosting separate. It can save a lot of headaches when it comes to dropping a host/moving servers.

Domainmonster & namecheap are my preferred domain registrars. However as long as they don't have any silly terms about transferring away, or charging to leave etc then I'll register with whoever has the best current offer/promotion/coupon at the time.

I've use fasthosts in the past, no real problems with them. I only use them for DNS registration tho; hosting I use Vidahost.

Thanks all. I ended up buying it from 123reg for about £7 incl VAT for 2 years. So I shall leave it 'parked' for a while.

I do have this idea in my head though: What would be nice, is if I can find a free hosting site, that I can add this domain to and just make a one page 'under construction' for the time being.

http://www.000webhost.com/ offer free hosting with no adverts, quite a lot of features too.

Don't expect it to be fast or 100% reliable though.

Tsohost/Vidahost do a years hosting for about £15 failing that.

edit: beat :(.

thank guys. I now own it.

I am interested in building my own website for this address I now have for 2 years. But have no idea where I would start.

I only want a simple page with a way of emailing me on it.

Dont know what software to use or then who and how to use to get it onto the internet? and into a way that google would search for it.
