Sold an item today on ebay for £235.00

Buyer seems to have paid however they funds are on hold in paypal. Ebay/paypal say funds will be released up to 21 days after the item has been received. This is apparently because I don't sell very often on ebay.

I cant say I'm very happy about sending an expensive item before the cash is in my account. It would be sent via special delivery so delivery is guaranteed but in my eyes a lot can still go wrong.

Theres an option to cancel the transaction. If I do that will the buyer have his funds refunded automatically and the on hold funds disappear from my paypal?

I sold something for £160 I think it was, a while back. Had to wait forever to get the funds, well after the person had come and collected. I don't really see the issue, no more risky than any other eBay transaction where the buyer has protection and can claim.

Just check their feedback. If they have a good few and all looks legit, then should be ok.

Are you relatively a new seller, if so it's perfectly normal for them to hold funds for a few weeks. They only do it with new sellers to prevent scammers from selling stuff they don't have and making off with money.

You are probably likely going to get a neg feedback from buyer.

Perfectly normal for new or infrequent sellers and nothing to be concerned about, just annoying.

IIRC they pay up once it's delivered which, if you update the tracking info, is automatic.

You did collection and Paypal?

The money is as safe while on hold as it is actually being in your PP account. Pointless to cancel the buyer will almost certainly now neg you and have a little cry in your feedback.

It's irrelevant now but I think the cash is released when the buyer leaves positive feedback. You don't necessarily have to wait the full period.

Standard procedure, despite being a regular seller I've had this a couple of times with various items.

The buyer has paid for the item and you've cancelled it. It was Paypal that was holding the funds, so providing you send it correctly you'd have been safe.

was about to comment on the same thing... wide open to being scammed... never do this!

When sellers list paypal as an accepted method of payment along with collecting items usually buyers communicate first before bidding and offer to pay cash on collection.

If not then a simple back and forth conversation, refund of paypal and arrange for cash payment is all that's needed. Just be careful and eBay is fine.

Right, and when the buyer decides he can't be bothered to leave feedback, you don't ever get your money as eBay assumes the buyer isn't happy :D
