quick electrical question

Hi, I am just changing an old light socket over, the old one had a live and a common, but the new switch only has two lives.

Am i supposed to put the common in live 2?

As long as it is a bog standard 2 terminal switch with no dimming etc then wire it how you said, makes no odds at all.

that one wired in and all working now

however, my next and last one to change is indeed a 2 switch dimmer.
That has two blocks, each with a l1, l2 and then an arrow with a squiggly line through it.

Do i need to do something different with that?

Join the lives into the Arrow Squiggly terminal. Each light feed will then go to L1 and L2. Take note of how the old one was wired so you know which wires are the pairs for each light.

If not test the wires with a tester if you can and find which 2 are live, they go into the Arrow Squiggly terminal.
