Fallout 3: Expansion Pack 2 Broken Steel and Point Lookout - Due for release on 07/08/2009

£14.99 each from a certain online retailer

Load all the expansion packs and play the game as if they're built in. :)

You can do most of them at any point in the game (apart from Broken Steel which is an extended ending to the game.

Do them when you're ready too. I certainly wouldn't leave them till the end though, you'll get no benefit from all the awesome new weapons. :)

I assume the game is cheaper with ms points and is available now to play/download now so...

where can you buy ms points from?
where can you buy/download the DLCs from?

You can only get points and the DLCs at Games for Windows Live. You need a create an account then buy points (sold in 1,000 point packs), buy the DLC (at 800 points each), install and play.

It took me a bit of fiddling to get Broken Steel (the only DLC I have bought) to work. I have to load the game, log into GFWL, it then downloads the extra content. I then log out of GFWL and can then load my game and play. If I don't do it in that order I either cannot see the DLC when I load a game or have the DLC but no saves!

Once you're a high level character some missions are just too easy and not really fun because you're an unstoppable death machine, even with just your fists for weapons. The DLC's have felt easy and short as I played with a Lv 20 character, so I felt a little short changed by them, with hindsight I wish I'd gone in as a Lv 5-10. Its too tempting with a powerful character to ignore the story options and just kill everything.

The levelling time scales, very quick to Lv2, then longer and longer each time. Quests level you up quickly I think you probably could get to Lv15 in 15 hours depending on how you go about achieving XP, killing/quests.

not if you add mods,i have been on this game for over 140 hrs and im only at level 14..mods make the game so much better and more realistic...fallout 3 vanilla is so so unbalanced;)

Vanilla Lv 20 means there's nothing to fear in the wasteland. I wish I'd played a modded version from the start or that it had been made more difficult. Oh well i'll remember for fallout 4.

yea, when you get all your skill points up to max, Fallout 3 is too easy, especially if you have the laser gattling and weapons cheats :D:D

i have 200 mini nukes and 20 000 in my laser gattling, the only thing that can stop me dead now......... is when the stupid game crashes! :D:D

but my favourite weapon is the Lincoln Repeater.... i love it.

It's easy with cheats? Who'd have thought? :p

Once you've got some decent weapons and a good tactic on how to use them, then it is easy using VATs. :) Particularly toward the end of the game when you've probably got gear like the T-51b and the unique weapons.

I forget what I have exactly, but I get really high hit % and damage on heads with small guns, + a full AP refill for every kill in vats.

It's dead easy to walk into a room full of anything, and wipe it out in the blink of an eye.

I'm just about to start this.. Is it worth playing the vanilla version or loading the expansion packs before I start?
Play the vanilla first there are around 160 ish locations to find and loads of missions & sub quests all of which contribute something to your game experience and sometimes you gain additional items or unlock new locations or sub locations. There are several locations which most players will never visit if they skip missions & quests. By the time you have done these (about 75 hours minimum gametime realworld time much longer) your character should be up to lvl 20 then your ready for the DLC.

Best way to do the DLC is in order of release so:

Operation Anchorage = 4-5 hours gameplay
The Pitt =3-4 hours gameplay
Broken Steel = 3-4 hours gameplay
Point Lookout =6-8 hours plus gameplay

If your tempted to cheat or use mods along the way IMO you are ruining the experience for yourself and losing 75% of the value for money as gametime is greatly reduced. Its pretty finely balanced as is no need to change anything. Best guide is get all 1000 GFWL Achievement points (you can use your X360 gametag if you have one otherwise its free now anyway) then you will be ready for the DLC as you have pretty much explored everything else.

For the DLC if you do it in release order it makes it better as you retain some new weapons/armour for the next DLC and apart from Operation Anchorage you can revist them all in game anyway. Just keep your save for Operation Anchorage when you first enter it to replay that part in future.

Point Lookout is pretty hard even with a lvl 30 character. I had everything I earned for all previous DLC & the main game yet finished it with next to nothing as those hillbilly's are pretty tough hombres

If you do not cheat or use mods I estimate there is around 2 months alltime PC gaming greatness to be had :D
