I'm thinking of grabbing an AMD GPU for the first time in well over a decade, a big part of that is due to the G-Sync premium on monitors, now what I want to know is the following,

If I have an AMD gpu and pick up any freesync monitor is it guaranteed to work with it properly, or is it a bit of a crapshoot like pairing nvidia gpu with G-Sync 'compatible' display?

Nvidia GPUs work with most Freesync monitors btw. Using one now and its working great.

I hear this a lot but is there a list off 100% compatible monitors? just seems there a lot cheaper freesync screens out there like the recent budget Gigabyte ultrawide (G34WQC) but people people on Nvidia GPU's have reported flickering, I like things to be 100% compatible otherwise I find it very irritating.

Thanks for your help but you kind of make my point there, there are only two 3440x1440 ultrawides listed there, the cheapest being £969! On the freesync side you can pick many 34" 3440x1440 ultrawides around the £400-500 range, that's a massive price difference, the cost of a good GPU.

You show me a cheap 100% g-sync compatible ultrawide and I'll buy it.

I've managed to get a 34" Iiyama IPS ultrawide for £385 today - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/iiya...esync-ultrawide-gaming-monitor-mo-13j-iy.html

I'm running a 1080Ti at the moment on an Acer xb271hu which is full g-sync as it has the actual g-sync chip, so I will be comparing it when the new monitor arrives. Hopefully it'll function the same, and I won't be tied to a specific GPU vendor.

I'll let you know how I get on!

Interesting thanks, definitely report back.
