Meant to be MX-1, and there was barely any difference once I removed it and used Arctic Silver or Ceramique instead, so looks to be decent stuff.

Yep - comes pre-applied to the heatsink.
Better than AS5 too.

bit of a mare tho, being pointed in the direction of the tuniq tower instead of the freezer

Are you overclocking?
I have an AF7 on my Q6600 at 3.6GHZ and its running too toasty under load, and will be swapping to a Tuniq in the next month or so.
If you're going for a big Air overclock - head for Tuniq, otherwise go for the cheaper and easier to fit AF7.

E6400 (2.1Ghz stock) running at 3.2Ghz under an AF7Pro here. Idles at 35-40, never gone above 60 on load. Does the job perfectly well for the money.
