Quick graphics card question

I've just bought a 20 inch Samsung 2032BW, and my graphics card is absolutely rubbish. I'm currently running a VGA connection, on a 1600x900 and it looks blurry to say the least. I know the maximum resolution for the monitor is 1680x1050, so I need a graphics card that will definitely support this resolution. A DVI input is also a must.

I'm not a gamer, so ideally I'd like the cheapest option that will suit my needs. I've been thinking of maybe the Sapphire Radeon 2600 Pro 256MB. Would this be an acceptable choice, or am I better going with an alternative?

If not gaming then one of the 8400s / HD2400s will go nicely with your monitor. What current card do you have? However crap it should still support that resolution through VGA?

I currently have an Nvidia 6200 'Turbocache', whatever that is. Rest assured, it's not very good!

Ok, thanks.

Just checked out some of the latest PC games out of curiosity, and I quite fancy getting a good card now as opposed to a PS3. My spec is good, other than my graphics card, so how much should I budget for a card that can play all the top games? Again, any recommendations?

The best bang for buck card is probably the HD3850pro for just over £100. If you can spend the extra get the 3870XT. Higher than that you can get the 8800GT although the new revision of 8800GTS (£200) should be available very soon for not much more.

As above, any of them cards will do the job, its just a matter of how much your willing to spend on one, if you dont mind knocking a few GFX settings down then the 3850 is a good choice.

How much are you willing to spend on a gfx card then we should be able to point you in the right direction. Around the 100 mark will get you a 3850pro , 150 should see you get a 3870xt and if you can find 1 in stock anywhere 180 will probably get you a 8800 gt which is the best performer of these 3.

Cheers. I'd be happy to spend around £100 on a card, maybe ever so slightly more. Sadly my pocket won't quite stretch as far as the 8800GT currently.

Is there much between the three cards mentioned, or would the average guy not notice the difference?

The gt is around 15-20% faster than a 3870xt and the 3870 is a good bit faster than the 3850pro. The 3850pro will still let you game at a medium to high setting in most games.
