Ordered this from OcUK yesterday, so touch wood, should be with me today at some point.

Anyhow, its going in my computer in sig. Will XP Pro pick this up as a 250GB I just recall reading that sometimes computers dont pick up correct storage space or am i wrong ?

Also, do i just connect it to the other Sata1 socket, or should i use the sata II socket as the hard drive says it is sata II ?

Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-018-SA)

XP should pick up the drive fine, you may need to have SP2 installed but it shouldn't present any significant problems. It is difficult to guess though as problems can occur that are totally unexpected of course.

If you have a SATAII port then I'd connect it to that and make sure that SATAII is enabled in the bios but if not then I doubt it will make much of a difference for you to connect it to a SATAI port.

Thanks, yeah i have SP2 installed.

Also, i have all my games, and apps installed of course on the raptor 74GB, but now i will also have the 250GB HD, should i move things across or am i better keeping apps and games and OS on the raptor and use the new HD for "My music" Videos, photos etc ?

Strange on here today, the big reply window has vanished ? have to click "post reply" any body seen it ? where is the lovely big box for replying
gone to ?

Thank you for your reply though

I'd use the larger hard drive for storing files that won't need to be accessed quite so quickly like music videos etc unless you have run out of space on the Raptor in which case I'd put games on the large hard drive as well.

You aren't the only person to notice quick reply has disappeared, the thread in GD is here basically it is down to technical issues.

Okay it has just arrived, now when i have installed it, do i have to format it?
My raptor is using NTFS not that i know what that is of course  but anyhow.

Or should it be fine out of the box so to speak ?

Chances are you will have to format it as NTFS, you can do this through Control Panel - Adminsitrative Tools - Drive Management and then highlight and format the drive you want. You may also be able to right-click and do it from my computer but it may not show up there until it is formatted :)
