OK, I recently bourght a new HD for an upcoming build, unfortunatly due to my screen going bye bye I had to shell about £160 for a new one (gone from 19inch square to 22inch wide so not all bad) so it means I can't get the last parts for the build for another few weeks.

However, I currently already have the HD, and I'm wondering if I could install it into my current PC and then stick some files on it, ready for when I set up my new one?

Would this be possible? or would it be best to wait till I have the new PC, set it up with the new HD and then stick my old HD inside that one and move the files over? would be goo to know even if that would be possible.

Thanks.

the answer is , it depends if you want to install windows on to your new HD

if you want to use the HD as the main HD in your new pc and put windows on it, i would wait.

then you can put it in to your new pc, format it, install windows on it and then copy your data on to it

you also have the option to use your old HD as a second HD in your new pc and just leave all your data on it ..

Ok that makes sense, when it comes to using my old HD as a 2nd in my new PC, could I just put it in the new PC after its all working and then move the files I want over and then format it?

I can only think there would be problems with that as there is a copy of windows on it and drivers etc.
