Quick HDD Question

One of the pc's here at work could do with upgrading soon.
Can we simply buy another pc, from here or elsewhere and blonk the old hard drive in it and away we go?

Thanks for replies. Yes i meant plonk not blonk (or blank!)

I tried putting the hard drive in a different machine, just to see if it works and as said it didnt boot.

So if i get a new pc, can i copy the entire content, including all programs etc. of the old drive onto the new one. If so, whats the best way to do this.

If i were to get a copy of Acronis True Image 11 Home would i be able to purchase a new pc including a new hard drive and transfer all files and programs etc to the new. Would it then boot up?

Ok, so there's no way of copying the applications as well. I was hoping not to have to re-install everything!
