My MSI Gaming 290X actually came with an adapter, surely the MSI 280X will be no different? In which case, the Akasa one should be fine.

As for which card: I believe the only difference is the core speed, which is only 40MHz difference (an overclock you can easily apply yourself).

going to ask a numpty question again :D

I think my mobo p67a-C45 is only pci x16 second gen? Will that make a word of a difference or am I safer going for 270x? I belive pci express3.0 will even work with pci 1.0

It's all backwards compatible, so the 280X is fine.. and yes, the P67A-C45 supports single PCI-E (x16) gen2.

Forgot to answer your other question.. :P

PCI-E 3 doubles the bandwidth of 2, but I believe it is pretty much useless at this point as the current video cards aren't fast enough to utilise it. I'm sure someone will be able to give you a more detailed response to this though!

Yeah no worries about running 1 GPU in a PCIE 2.0 slot:

7970 is same chip as 280X, upgrading to PCIE 3.0 you might see 2 or 3 FPS difference tops. Going back to your original post, the 280X should come with a double molex to 8 pin adapter I think.

Cheers guys got my order in.

Yeah checked an unboxing video and it does have a adapter but got one anyway can also flog it :)

My Dell U2414H should come today cant wait :)

Nice, one other thing is you might want to consider another 4GB stick of RAM. You currently have 4GB which should be ok but you will probably find yourself on the limit running BF4 at ultra 1080p with 4GB - might even go over. 8GB is the standard for gaming these days.

Yeah am trying to pick up a second set of xms3's.

I take it 4 sticks or 2gb will be fine?

Also trying to score a second hand 120gb ssd.

Just trying to make my pc a bit more current since I lost my job on Wednesday and could be using it a lot lol

Ah shame about the job dude - well best spend your money on PC bits whilst you can eh!

Yeah 4x2GB stick will be fine - to be honest 4GB should be ok but you might find that games take longer to load whilst windows swaps running programs from RAM to your pagefile. On a standard hard disk drive the pagefile performance is of course much worse than on an SSD.

If budget is tight go for an SSD for sure, they are incredible all-round performance boosters - will feel like you have upgraded everything when you install a fresh copy of windows onto an SSD :D
