Hi all, I need some quick advice on the type of cable I need to go from my sky hub to the switch/router .. I've been told cat 6 is fine but others have said go for cat 7 if I can ... I also need to know if i need switch or a router .. I'm running from the sky hub to (what I call a splitter), two computers on a home network ... dunno which is needed but I would like to get as fast a pass through as possible ... any help appreciated :-)

Well whoever told you to get Cat7 hasn't the foggiest of what they're talking about.

Get a Cat6a (at the maximum) patch lead. Cat6 will do it. You're then suited for 10Gb/s transfer.

I'm assuming you want to go

Hub --> "Splitter" --> Computers

If that's so you want a switch, how far is the distance between the hub and the switch?

e;

Switches you're looking for an unmanaged desktop switch really, I'd go with 5 ports for your use. Gigabit is ideal if you're doing LAN Transfers (if you're transferring from PC to PC/Server via network)

Take your pick really. With unmanaged switches they're much the sameness

Yeah that cable and switch looks fine. The cable is slightly on the expensive side though :p

I wont say where but "15m Cat6 patch lead" will do you wonders ;)

Cat7,lol

Cat5e would be plenty. You will see zero difference between cat5e and cat7 for what you're doing.

i remember bang and olufsen speced me cat 7 for their masterlink gateway system what a complete nightmare it was to work with, never ever again.
id just go cat5e simple to use and will be fine for what your doing.
