ok guys, I messed up big time here, formatted the wrong drive (forgot I'd changed the drive letter!) and I need a way to restore the drive to the way it was, before the quick format
nothing new written to drive, its just showing as a newly formated partition.
realy need to get this back fast before I have a heart attack!
its a 80gig drive, needs to be free software!

Right. Easy Recovery from OnTrack will get your data back but it's £25 for a one use hit.

I've used GetDataBack and it didn't work.

Might be worth trying PC Inspector File Recovery first as it's freeware and it'd given away with a lot of the mags: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/download.htm
trying getdataback, its showing somthing (still scanning)
I've checked, it doesn't matter TOO much if I lose this drives data, its just a pain in the ass.

I've used GetDataBack with great success. It did take nearly 24hrs to scan and recover everything though - don't think I lost a thing.

well, this drives on its own controler (Sata, only one attached) so should be quite fast to find things. 4 mins left on scan
fingers crossed!
the drives getting bloody hot tho!

Mine was a laptop hard disc that was actually physically bust. Just died one day. Had to wack it a few times to get it detected by the BIOS! I was utterly stunned nothing was lost.

well this is showing LOADS of files detected, so I feel hopfull.........
.....I'm doomed arn't I?

ok, it found the files, now says I have to copy the recovered files, but when I try it says I need a licenced copy, I thought this was free?

The free version allows you to scan a drive to see if there is anything recoverable, if you want to recover it then you have to pay

this works if you just delete the partition tables
