If I order something from the states for 300dollar, how much import taxwill I look at paying ?

Do you mean VAT?

Depends if Customs stop the package and what they value the item. When I imported something for £200, it cost me over £40 - VAT and RM handling charges

You mean that custom duty? Where they charge you to man handle your goods. For your protection...

Depending on what it is. It could be more than the price you paid for it. But probably around £50 customs.

Digital Camera, prices there are the same (or less) in $ than they are here in £.

Would be a problem if I got stung with the taxes etc, just wondering how much they would be and would it put me over the price of buying it new here.

VAT + duty + RM/courier fees.

= rarely worth it if stung.
