Quick insurance/age Q

. Mind you if you have took out a 10 month policy you won't get a NCB that you can carry to another insurance company anyway

It's able to be carried over to any insurance company. On completion of the 10 month policy, you get a letter stating that you have 1 year NCB. There's no way to tell that it was a 10 month policy.

Wasn't this proved not to be the case in a recent thread? Your insurance documents will only show how many years NCB you have and not how they were accrued. I think Gilly posted something along those lines.

Maybe, never had a 10 month policy so not sure. First point still stands though, he won't get the NCB if he finishes early.

Firstly: What car are we getting?. Surely a Ti/coupe/wedge tub? :D .

And secondly, definately ride the last few months out dude. When the extra years NCB + being 21 kicks in, you're on easy street.

Almost Benneh.... ;)

Never realised you are older than me :o I'm not 21 until Feb

I wouldn't see the point in cancelling. I'd rather store the car on your drive for 2 months and get it minted up whilst you wait.

Do you know what it is Ben? :D Just gotta remember that if it turns out to be a heap, walk away. I do know the gearbox is noisy so will have to keep that in mind.

No room on the drive to keep it. If I get it, the 220 will be sat on the driveway while I break it. Even if it costs me £400 in extra insurance for the last 3 months, I'll pay it.

Simon, I've had the policy since I got the 220 in March. I turn 21 in October. The fact that taking out a new policy after I'm 21 (with exactly the same details entered) is £800 cheaper for the new car shows that they didn't take this into consideration (why would they, being 7 months from my birthday).

Oh, and regarding the NCB... as has been said, when you get another years NCB, that's what it says on your certificate. Some companies don't like it if you say you have 3 years NCB while only having held your licence for 2 years (I did Pass Plus so have had the same problem) so you are pretty limited to insurers that way.

That was 7 months ago though  Isn't it obvious insurance will go down as your age and driving experience increase? Of course they took it into consideration. The majority of your policy you were/are in the higher risk under 21 group so you are gonna pay a premium.

I really am amazed your considering this. You won't get the NCB if you cancel now, which is going to be your biggest problem and certainly won't help at renewal of the current policy.

If you wait the two months I bet the quote you get then will be even lowere

I have seen a few mentions on RT. A fine choice too ;) . But... Just don't buy a pile of carp out of excitement. I'm due a gearbox in the near future (overdue), been quoted £80 for the swap at my local garage, and boxes seem to go for £50+ on RT so don't be too worried about that. Watch out for all the usual, give it a rasp on full lock either way and listen for knocking. Check boost (borrow a boost guage if needs be, only take 5 mins to plumb it in), have a look for smoke etc. If you can have a feel of the turbo for play in the shaft. Short of that if it's not rusted up and it's not falling apart all is well :). Of course you already know all of that (and i'm a noob lol).

Seriously thinking of getting rid of my Ti in the next few weeks. Feeling the need for some RWD action. So got to decide.. Do I replace the gearbox/driveshaft and possibly clutch release bearings, or do I just selll it as is.. Hmm. No room to break it in liverpool. I've spent £800+ on it in the last year, seems sad to sell it for peanuts.

Edit: Remember when you came for a spin in it at one of the mancs meets? lol, the gearbox actually started whining a few days before that, so it's been going like a trooper since.

Yeah I understand that, but I thought that because I'd done quotes after I was 21 which were considerably lower, I'd be able to ring up, give them the code for a new quote and they'd adjust mine accordingly.

I wasn't going to cancel the policy.

Benneh, I think you should fix the GTR! No fun keep selling cars (as I've found out). I just want a good model to start with and tweak that. Nicely modified Ti's are pretty sweet cars, and can suprise a lot of people.

Cheers for all the info btw. Might see if I can buy a cheap boost gauge from somewhere... afterall, I'm going to need one anyway ;)

Maybe I should try ringing mine very week to get it knocked down a bit ;)

:D

Was a bit silly of me to think they'd reduce it, but with it being such a big difference, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask ;)

I don't get some of you guys cancelling your policies mid term.

Have a look at the cancellation scales in your policy booklets. Cancelling after 9 months normally means no money back and cancelling after 6 normally only nets 35% back or something silly like that.

Surely that's a false economy?

I know some insurers will cancel pro rata if you are paying on their OWN instalment plan, but not many.

So I'm getting an idea it's a 620ti? They're ok so long as you dont get one like my brothers which emptied it's oil and coolant bowells with alarming regularity. Can you sort out the handling on those? I'd imagine you can as it's an Accord chasis isn't it? Pretty boat like round the corners but probly spring into life with some geo & lowering etc.

 A barge?

I can't believe you think I'd stoop so low :p

I'm staying with something that handles at least a little bit! But yeah, it's a Turbo. About time I got one I think.

And yeah, it would be extremely stupid to cancel my policy this far in (not that I was going to :)). I can't cancel it anyway as the Combe incident is still underway.

From what I've seen/read, the gearboxes are the main things to go. The Turbo's don't have reliability issues any more than the NASP engines... well, apart from turbo seals and whatnot... or blowing something up if you turn the boost up too high.
