Quick iPhoto question

I'm quite impressed with iPhoto and would like to use it to archive all my photos.

However can I only see them when I open iPhoto? Can other applications not use them?

It'd be good if I could select the odd one or two to say attach in an email or send over MSN - i've gone through Finder and it just brings up the iPhoto library which opens iPhoto?

Just need to know if I have to keep a backup of them all elsewhere rather than just letting iPhoto archive them all.

Cheers. :)

With iPhoto '08 Apple made the photo library a package (for some reason...). If you right click on iPhoto Library in Pictures, then select "Show package contents" to have a look around (all your pictures are in originals, the one's for which you have a modified version are in modified).

I use Mail so attaching them in an email is easy, as for MSN you can drag them from iPhoto into the text bit of MSN to send them :)
