Hey guys,

If I get an iPod mini, can I get away without using iTunes and just drag and drop MP3s to it like a removeable drive?

(I tried a google, but the reviews don't seem to cover this point).

Thanks!

Also, will I need to buy anything extra if I want to use it with USB 2.0, or does it come with USB 2.0 connectors?

iPods now seem to come with USB and not firewire. It seems that they have done away with the idea.

You can not drag and drop music onto the mini as said above but you can use other programs other than iTunes. You can use Winamp + plugin instead if thats easier.

I'm guessing you're buying a refurb / 2nd hand?

And you can't drag and drop to it.

Yeh. I'm quite impressed with the price of the refurb ones.

Damn - really wanna have drag and drop :(

I have a Creative Zen Xtra (40GB) (with headphone amp and Sennhesier SD25-sp's :D) for all my main music (30GB), but I need something with ~2GB for my 'evaluation' music - ie music I'm testing to see if I like (1GB at the mo). Would also be nice to have a smaller MP3 player anyway, but with drag and drop.

There was a patch that enabled a Dell Axium PDA to be treated as a Mass storage Device, so you didn't have to use Active Sync.

Never bothered looking to see whether there was anything that worked in a similar way with the ipod, as I just tolerated using iTunes.

It would be cool if you could just browse the directories on a iPod and drag and drop.

Have you checked any of the dedicated iPod forums?

It's not going to happen. The iPod uses a database to keep track of your listening habits and playlists, and handle the navigation. It works a lot better than browsing through a folder structure.
