Quick loft insulation air circulation question

Am going to be topping up my loft insulation at some point this summer (is currently just in the joists installed by previous owners, about 10cm thick wool stuff). One thing i noticed whilst I was up there was that they seem to have jammed the insulation right into the bottom corners (where the soffits are) and so there is no air circulation, which i'm pretty sure I read somewhere is a no no? I'm sure it said can cause problems with condensation as there is no circulation...

See lovely diagram I made:

(not to scale, not accurate, I just like using gimp)

Am I right in saying this isn't right, and I should pull the insulation out a bit so there is an air gap to allow air through the soffit vents? I pulled one of the soffit vents out through an upstairs window and all you can see is insulation!

You;ll need to leave at least 50 mm over the insulation where it comes to the eaves to allow the air to flow over the insulation and through the roof space.

What he said, don`t forget to lag any pipework thoroughly as when the insulation is doing its job no heat/or very little gets above the wool in the winter (only applicable if pipes are above the wool)
Also worth a mention if you have spots in the ceiling and/or the transformers that power them make a hole for these as when covered with wool they overheat and burn out/fail :)
