Hey folks. It's been a while since I've caught up on the pc lark, and am a tad behind :)

I upgrading from my AMD 939, to a C2D. I'm pretty set on a E5200, but all the m/b's I've seen need a bios revision for that particular CPU. Will the board still boot with it ok with stock bios? (Didn't used to in the old days :p)

I'm looking at this board in particlar. Any thoughts? Also will it be ok to just throw in 4Gb of PC2-6400C DDR2 and away I go? Many thanks :D

Just checked the MSI website the board needs BIOS V41 to use the 5200 cpu.

I have that board it not to bad, has very limited options for Overclocking.

Aye, that's what I mean. Will I get it to boot with stock bios? As I don't have an older C2D to put in to boot with and update bios.

Cheers for reply. When you say limited, do you mean no overclocking, or just not high end? I might have a fiddle, but it will more than likely be running close to stock.

I just had another quick go at Overclocking and for love nor money could not change the memory frequency.

My E2000 is running at 2.5ghz (stock 2ghz) with memory at 833mhz any more and I can't boot.

It might boot but throw an error up with the E5200 installed, but I am not sure which Version BIOS the boards come shipped with, I bought mine September. (Had vs 40)
Try send a webnote, Overclockers might be able to let you know.

If you have an extra £20 ~ spare, have a look at the P43 range you can pick up the Gigabyte EP43-DS3L for £72.00 ~ this will give a new chipset, PCI-E 2.0 and hopefully better options and should work with E5200 out of the box.
