Quick maths problem

If it hasn't been answered already:

Pythagoras.

2x^2 = 22^2 = 484
x^2 = 242 = 15.56.

y = 22 - x = 6.44

Thus, x = 15.56 and y = 6.44

No trigonometry involved, whatsoever. Guaranteed correct.

x = 22sin45 = 15.6
y = 22 - x = 6.44

whats the issues here guys this is gcse maths, and why not use trig? its faster

Dear lord, It's only been 7 years since my GCSE maths but i can't remember how on earth I would go about working this out ( being the calculations rather than the theory )

What do those up arrows mean?

Basically they're trying to show the number's power.

Like X squared, would be easier to describe as: X^2 otherwise you'd think it was X multiplied by 2 [X2 rather than X^2]. It's quicker than playing around with the sizes I'd imagine.

For instance, Pythagoras theorem is: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 (a-squared + b-squared = c-squared). The up arrow is just denoting power.

awesome, im in my first year there doing maths and physics :P

how was finding a job after your degree? if you dont mind me asking and also slightly derailing the thread :)

I got myself a job 3 months after graduating last year, making missiles of all things. I think the Warwick name carried me quite a long way, because I never did any internships and only the occasional part time job.

Well, you'll have lots of fun falling asleep in the back of MS.02 in 9 o clock lectures if you're anything like me. Especially if you've been to Top Banana the night before. :p

Edit: oh wait, they've demolished the SU building now haven't they? Is Top Banana still going?

yea fell asleep quite a few times in ms01/ms02 lol

and in our first 2 terms we had the TES (which was a big tent) for the nights out on campus, it was hot and horrible lol, top banana was still on though, £1 drinks create a lot of mess. Since the TES wasnt great we went out to leam/cov more often, Kasbah and Evolve were good.

next term the new union will be complete, and it looks awesome to be honest, with feeder performing at the end of the term! Cant wait to have a decent venue on campus, plus im in Rootes so it is literaly next door, cant wait!
