Quick Maxtor Slave Question

A friend of mine has recently bought a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 160GB 6L160P0 ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-057-MD)

Now this is of course IDE. He already has a hard drive installed with his OS on.

He does not know where to put the jumpers as apparently (i have not seen him, just spoke to him on the phone about all of this and trying to help him out, but as im sure you know, not always easy on the phone)

The maxtor has jumpers for things like drum, cylinder select, so im told by him as well as some other jumpers,

all he wants to do, is attach it to his slave socket/plug on the ribbon cable that goes to the main boot / OS hard drive.

What position do all the jumpers have to be in please if anyone knows so i can talk him through it on the phone.

He has tried cable select but in windows, nothing is found ?

Some help would be great as he is too far to drive to, to sort out.

I tend to always jumper drives as master or slave and never use cable select . So the hard drive with the os should be set as master and his other drive set to slave . Make sure that on the ribbon cable blue is connected to the board grey to his slave drive and black to his master .

Yes i know all that, thats what you normally do. but there is no Diagram on his brand new maxotr, so no idea where to put any of the jumpers ?

Easy tiger , the first set of jumper pins next to pin 1(red) on the ide cable are for master ie : vertical , slave is the second and third pins from pin 1 horizontal .
