My mate is buying a Micra 1.0 for £890

Its a P reg with a full service history and M.O.T, the dealer said the car had a re-spray and it has not been in any accidents.

I told him I would pay £700 for the car. Am I right? It has done 110,000 miles.

Thanks.

Before you buy, check the front crossmember (directly under the radiator) and the rear sills for rust, very common and MOT failure.

As said, front cross member rots (my other half's did).

Also the maf can screw up on these requiring a new TB assembly, 100 odd quid for a rebuilt part off ebay or the like or about £500 fitted new from Nissan :( If it hesitates/stalls when idling then it's knackered.

Aye, although not quite as common as cross members, my friends when and he fitted one from a scrappy for a fiver from a 1.6 P11 Primera which worked fine. He also picked up another spare while he was there, changing them took literally minutes.

I might be wary about a respray... Why bother spending more than the car is worth on getting it repainted to cover up a few stonechips? I'd look very carefully for accident damage - inner wings that aren't straight, the boot floor, and especially check all the panel gaps are straight. Nissans normally have very even panel gaps, so any dodgy ones will show right up.

This sort of car I would not be looking to pay that sort of price for (although it's a fair enough dealer price).

Perhaps look private.

1 litre engines are dangerous to drive on our roads

The 1.0 K11 Micra does 0-60 in around 15seconds, which ok isnt great, but theres far worse on the road.
I would certainly recommend the 1.3 over the 1.0 Micra, as its a fair bit quicker.

This might help... I bought a Micra for a friend that had been repaired from front end damage last Decemeber. Was a 1.3, M reg 110k miles no tax, but 12 months MOT. Was in very good condition. Paid £650 for it. Been fine since.

That's a very generic comment!!!

You could be referring to a knackered old Nova with 40bhp, a tuned A-series mini with 90 odd bhp, a kitcar with a bike engine in pushing 140bhp, or a little Dihatsu turbo thing with 200 horsepower from it's 1 litre 3 cylinder engine.....

But I'd disagree with the point you intended. It's not dangerous at all. If you drive a little 40bhp 1 litre car as if it had 3 times the power, then yes, you could get into trouble. If you accept that it's not fast and just potter about, then in no way is a little underpowered car dangerous.

Meh, I'm disappointed! When I saw "Quick-Micra for £890" I thought it was some turbo'd pocket rocket or something going cheap on the 'bay! :p

£700 for an 11 year old 1.0 litre Micra with 110k on the clock?

Remember to bend over when he gives you the keys.

£700 isnt too far off the going rate for an early k11 micra, theres a market for them so they are quite pricey. Theres a few 80/90k 1996 micras for around £1000 on the trader.

1.0l Motors are dangerous coming from a reasonably powered car as you have to change your driving style.

I had my mates 1.1 Fiesta for a day and nearly got hit twice as i'll stroll up to an island in third in mine see a gap and just carry on. In the fiesta in 2nd, foot flat to the board and it gently pulled out in front of an oncoming car lol.

The Fiesta did 60 in 18 seconds so 2x's slower than mine and it was awful on the motorway. Top speed 85mph on the dial and it would drop down to 60mph even on slightest hills.

It did 43mpg even when thraped which was all the time :D

Going from a 1.0 car to a 1.2 :o

Not the hugest jump in engine sizes, 16.0sec to 60 against 11.8sec, i'm glad I upgraded :p

I felt uncomfortable pulling out on busy roundabouts/junctions in the 1.0

My mates got a 1.2 8V Active Sport Punto and they should leave "Sport" out.

It's not a painful car, but slower than his Fiesta 1.25 Zetec. Does 60 in about 14 seconds I think.

1.0 cars are far from "dangerous"

As said above, do not underestimate the rot on the crossmember. It is nearly always bad enough to warrant complete replacement rather than patching.

Yeh them Punto 1.2 8v are like 60hp, must be painful? I mean my 1.0 had 57hp :p
