Quick- Micra for £890

I had my mates 1.1 Fiesta for a day and nearly got hit twice as i'll stroll up to an island in third in mine see a gap and just carry on. In the fiesta in 2nd, foot flat to the board and it gently pulled out in front of an oncoming car lol.

Just what I said - if you drive a low powered car as you would a higher powered car, then you'll get yourself into trouble.

If you accept that it doesn't have a lot of power, and just wait for a bigger gap, then you'll not nearly get hit twice!

So basically is it any wonder why lads that jump from a 1.1 to 1.6 sometimes end up upside down in a field?

It must feel like driving a veyron

Well, it obviously goes both ways. Try to pull onto a busy dual carriageway from a standstill in a layby into a tiny gap in traffic that would have been fine in a TVR, and you're going to get rear ended by a lorry, which will crush your little Mirca and probably kill you.

Likewise, take liberties with a TVR by booting the throttle halfway round a tight off camber corner just like you used to do in the micra, and you'll end up wrapped around the nearest tree.

I think the latter is why so many people end up crashing their second car. They upgrade to something with a bit of poke, and try and drive it like they did their old 1 litre tin box. Common sense seems worryingly lacking in a lot of people!

Yeh, there are some cars I know I would die in........one being a 106 GTi because it's a stupidly fast tin can with no safety protection at all and with an 18 year old behind the wheel it would end in tears.

My 106GTi was fine, and I didn't die in it. In truth, it's not all that fast. It has 120bhp and weighs very nearly a tonne. Coming from a 2 litre Cavalier, there wasn't all that much difference. There's a big hill near me coming up out of a 30 limit. Boot the cavalier at the sign in 2nd and cane it up the hill, and you hit 65 before the fence at the top where you need to brake. The 106 would hit a little over 70 up the same hill.

The 18 year old argument doesn't hold water either - it's a matter of responsibility. A friend of mine built a kitcar, which he finished shortly after his 18th birthday. A RWD Fisher Fury, weighing 450kg with a 180bhp 2.0 16v Vauxhall XE engine in it. About 370bhp/tonne (noticeably more than the fastest new Mitsubishi Evo in the power/weight stakes), 0-60 in less than 4, and 0-100 in less than 10. A very fast car. Never once did he crash it.

I would rather have a 106GTi than a 205 GTi because they are just plain death traps lol.

Don't crash it then.

I don't choose my jeans based on which pair would be more likely to protect me if I fell over.

And if somebody hit's you side on?
And if somebody shoves you in the side on the High Street?

EDIT
What I'm trying to say is, you can't spend all your time worrying about what might happen. For a start, the actions of others are beyond your control.

Depends on your build. If you are 35 st and 6'5 they will bounce off and fall over.

If you are 8st and 6ft you will get pushed over.

Lets say the big lad at 6'5 35st is a Volvo...............the lad at 6ft 8st is a 205.

Fact of the matter is........why make high powered cars that you are likely to die in?

Eh?

By that rationale, no motorbike should have ever been built.

Tell ya what, me and you take my 205 and your Saxo and drive 'em into a wall at 120mph. I bet I won't die any worse than you will ;)

I know the Saxo isn't safe.......it has a 2* NCAP

The 205 does not have one though.......and do all 106GTi's have an airbag and side airbags like the Saxo VTS?

I personally......if I was having a fast car would rather have something that didn't crumple up like a coke can when hitting a fly at 100mph.

Ummmm....exactly? That's precisely why you would want a sturdy car rather than an unsafe one.

Plus, if you're driving at 100/120mph it's your own fault.

You can roll a car easily if you are forced off the road by an oncoming fool.

Roll down an embankment in a 205Gti and you are dead. Like a 106/Saxo.

They are french, made out of cheese

Like pretty much any car then

I've seen pictures of a C2 that had rolled 3 times.......you could only distinguish the car by the citreon bagde on the cam cover.

The roof was up and the people walked away!

Now everybody run along and buy a C2 VTS :D
