Im just wondering but is it best to format and reinstall windows when installing a new cpu or is it fine to just swap them out, would there be any benefits from formatting then reinstalling windows ?

No you shouldnt have to format or reinstall, just load defaults in the bios then install the new cpu. Occasionaly if its a newer cpu you might have to flash the bios on the motherboard to recognise it properly.

You can swop cpu's without re-install, you will proberly need to reset the CMOS before starting for the first time.
