Quick OS install query

Long story, but in the end I think ive ended up with a dead/dying 150Gb Maxtor and a working 250Gb Samsung.

The Samsung has large quantities of data on it (100Gb+) but no OS.

Will it be safe to install Windows XP onto this disk, and it'll leave the data intact?

(Obviously not choosing the "format" option in setup....)

If there's sufficient space in the existing partition then you can go ahead and install onto the Samsung. As you've noted don't format the partition, the install looks for double confirmation if you're attempting to delete or format an existing partition so just pay attention to what it's asking and you'll be fine
