Quick OS on RAID0 question

This is how I'm seeing it:

Set up striping in RAID BIOS - shows as about 600gig (2xWD 320GB)

Install XP - 127GB partition only

Update windows and use diskpart

Is it that simple? I tried to install windows but it looked like it was seeing two drives still, both with 127GB partitions? I don't want to install windows on one of the drives!

Any help would be appreciated :)

Sounds like there's something wrong with your RAID config, a RAID 0 array should appear to the OS as a single physical disk.

Did you do the F6 trick and give the install a floppy with the RAID drivers on it?

Oh and go get a copy of nLite and slipstream SP2 into your XP install, save you faffing about with updates, 127Gb limitations and diskpart.

Yeah I think I messed up, all I need to do now is get the right RAID drivers on a floppy. I copied over the XP folders from the RAID folder of my nVidia CD that came with the mobo but it complained of not finding txtsetup.oem, even though there were two copies on the disk! Is there a particular way of providing the drivers?

When making a set of drivers for the Intel ICH_R controller, I have always done so by putting the floppy in the FDD, and running a small .exe file (the icon looks like a small floppy) called a "WinImage Self Extractor File", this then puts a few files (4 I think) onto the floppy, one is txtsetup.oem, iaStor.sys etc. and then using this floppy in the FDD and pressing F6..

its nothing to do with your raid drivers ect, its what happens when u have an old copy of Win XP pre-service pack 1. its limited to 128gb

simply install as normal, and leave the rest of the space unpartitioned, then install SP1 or later, then use some software like partition magic and just expand the drive size to what ever u like.

i had that problem a loong time ago (if it is the same problem of course)

That makes sense but I'm not sure if the RAID drivers are correct as I am still seeing two drives of 127GB, but rpstewart said there should be only one, which rang alarm bells for me when I first saw it.

The mobo manufacturer doesn't provide much help - as its an nForce3 chipset can I find a floppy disk creator through them? All I've found so far is the chipset driver.

thanks for all the help so far guys.

I'm not sure that the nForce 3 chipset supports SATA RAID natively, the controller is probably a discreet one by either Promise or Silicon Image. Do you know the board make and model off hand?
