Quick overclock question

Hi all

I've recently built a new gaming pc - Intel 920, 6Gb RAM, and an XFX 4870x2

I've managed an overclock of 3.6Ghz on this so far...

Anyway, I set everything back to stock settings - everything runs fine, including games.

My question is whether it is necessary to overclock this? - It runs games fine (incredible quality), and I've not noticed any slowdown of the PC...

I think the real question is: why wouldn't you overclock it if it runs stable at sensible temperatures?

If you were planning to run it at stock, it would have been more cost efficient to go AMD.

To be honest it's not that neccessary to overclock unless CPU is the bottleneck (which it's not with that chip). It depends on whether you value the extra little bit of time you will gain on processor heavy things like video encoding or unrarring. Do you value low temps and low power draw, or the extra time more?

I don't do too much video encoding... The main reason for getting this was for gaming. I also like to fiddle with technology too, so playing around to see how fast it goes is of interest to me...

The point I was trying to make was that it seems unnecessary to overclock at this stage - When games are made that the PC will struggle to play, then maybe overclock it...?
