Hey guys it'd been a long time since I've build a PC but am looking to build a HTPC to play 720P material from disk and the odd bit of divx

Would the components listed below work together OK?

Silverstone Grandia GD01B-MXR HTPC Case - Black (No PSU)

Asus M3N78-VM NVIDIA 8200 (Socket AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5400+ 2.70GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B 1TB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A38016)

OCZ StealthXStream 400w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply

I chose the M3N78-VM for the HDMI out.

I have a DVD drive already and will slum it with onboard sound for the moment.

All in the basket ready to order, just need to know it'd work :)

Thanks in advance!

Yep, all should work fine, only thing I would change is the hd to Samsung or WD, but that is my own personal choice :)

Great thanks for the advice guys.

I've placed the order and replaced the Hitachi for a samsung for an extra £8 ish

I'd rather go overkill on storage rather than run out, especially as it'll be storing a lot of HD material so stuck with the 1TB drive

thanks again!

Good choice mate,

hope all goes well

Hi all,

I've taken delivery of this and built the rig this afternoon.

The machine is either giving no video or not posting at all.

The PSU / CPU fans spin up as does the HDD when the machine is powered on.

During the build of the machine I thought it was a little odd that the RAM did not seem to click into place as you would usually expect. It seems like the heatsinks attached to the RAM do not give enough clearance for them to click into place correctly.

After grabbing some spare RAM from a machine at work I've tested this theory and hey presto it boots fine!

Does anyone know where I stand with this? I can't believe the RAM doesn't fit in the slot properly, talk about poor design!
