Quick PS3 SD Card Question...

The PS3 doesn't need one.

Think of it as more of a way to transfer photo's to the PS3 from a camera or other files if pre-loaded from a PC. I've got into the habbit of putting my SD card straight into my PS3 after taking photo's now and copying them to the PS3. Makes viewing much easier and ensures that I have an additional copy of my photo's should my PC hard disk fail.

Sorry about this.... :o

But what are they used for and do I need one? :(

Just another useless feature Sony implemented, I'd rather have a cheaper console than features practically no one used.

I used it at my mates wedding a month or so ago when we got back to his house plug the SD card from my camera into his PS3. We all could look at the photos in comfort while looking at his 40 inch HDTV, without having to go upstairs connect up my camera and display it on a lil 17 inch screen with us all there, i know which i thinks better. How much do you think it cost to fit the card slots a few pounds at most no big deal, dont forget Sony is not selling the PS3 as just a games machine but a multi media gaming machine, not much point being multi media if you cant use multimedia cards and have to rely on connecting to USB all the time.
You could have had a cheaper console, the 20Gb version doesnt have some of the extra things people say they dont want ie WiFi, card slots etc, but it didnt sell that well in the US as people must have wanted the extra to warrant paying an extra $100 for the 60Gb version.

How is that relevant? Just because somebody criticises the PS3 (he is right by the way) doesn't mean he/she is a fanboy of another system.

Say do you have the 20gig? :)

It's from other threads I picked up on as he is always digging at it.

Nope I don't, fails too often for me to risk getting one yet, though that has nothing to do with the ps3. I'm sure you think anyone who makes a valid ps3 critisism is a 360 or wii fanboy, sometimes though you just have to accept that the console does have it's flaws, has an awful company running it, and is overpriced.

And you always seem to right off other systems in the same way.

Just as much full of BS.

Here we go again.... :D

Overpriced? I wouldn't say so. Expensive yes, but not really overpriced.

But anyhoo, i quite like the card reader slots (didn't realise they were even there, damn flap :p ), as i dont have one for my PC it makes viewing the photos from my phone / camara easier!

:)

removal of the card reader is hardly gonna drop the price much energize, and its only useless ( for those who have no use of the feature ) others like myself have found many uses for this hardware feature. Please this is getting to be beyond a joke, every time somebody who asks a question about their ps3 and any related news ( games etc ) a hater ( fanboys and not ) jump in and start talking crap, nobody crashes ay of the 360 threads ( have a look at the forza thread no ps3 fanboys or haters talking crap in there ). If you have a problem with the machine make a thread and keep there and stop trolling threads were you have no serious/legitimate input as you are ruining these forums for ps3 users.

wow a card reader , how expensive , must add loads too the price...

oh wait no

a card reader costs a couple of quid max

and personally i use the mem card reader a fair bit.

He asked if he needed one, and I gave an answer. No need to go on about all the console haters, and how everyone is ruining threads etc...

And lest you forget we are talking about the same company who removed the ee to save a few pennies, crippling backwards compatibility in the process. So removing the sd card slot wouldn't be any worse than that.

well you could have just left it at that instead of going on a rant about how you think the ps3 is overpriced when infact it is hugely underpriced...

backwards compatibility is hardly crippled either...

ive failed to find a game that i own that doesnt work ,

id much rather have software emulation with upscaling etc than a couple of game i dont own or ever intend to play on the ps3 work

id rather have the card slot than those games working too actually :p

And your source for crippled emulation is what exactly, from last I heard you haven't any of the next gen machines, if that is correct then all your info is second hand and could be from biased sources because I don't see many threads on any forums complaining of lack of bc on pal ps3.

It's from sonys own list of compatible ps1 and ps2 games, and from all the threads on the official playstation forums asking when xxx game will work on the ps3.

A quick search for bc reveals:

"Why wont PES Play on my Ps3.............."

"has the backwards compatability site gone mad ???"

"Do the Backward Compatibility Issues bother YOU?"

"Anyone got wip3out 3 working on their PS3?"

"1.80 update now cannot play any ps2 game?"

"Ok thats it if sony can hear me im ******"

"PS2 games on the PS3 HELP!!!! "

"FFXII looking terrible on my ps3 "

"What have we done wrong Sony?"

"PS3 Backwards Compatability Problem"

"PAL PS3 + RGB + DVD = GREEN SCREEN ; Sony, how could you - and no 60hz mode?"

" PS3: Denting the brand"

And thats just the first page of results!

If the PS3 pal version has crippled backwards compatibility and hate to know what the 360 one is! The EU pal version has about 1800 games working (75-80% compatibility) where as the 360 has a couple of hundred which is about 65%?

Anyway if you got a digi camera/ mobile phone its quite useful to have it included and like ive said i have used quite a few times and have found it very useful and the photo slide show is very good one of the best ive used to be honest.

Thats the number of games listed as "compatible", they still have major or minor issues with them. If you take into account the us and jpn games, the "comptability" is less than 20%.
