quick q - skt A cpus

From memory the XP 3200+ was the fastest release which had the 400fsb.

I had the Abit NF7-s V1.2 motherboard but this couldn't run the 400fsb officially so I had the XP 3000+ which was the fastest 333fsb version. Just off-loading this system onto my old-man. 5 years old and still going strong ! !

I got one of these still... Cost 3 arms and 3 legs ( Didnt they all when they came out )

I still have XP2500 too... The thing with those, in the NF7S is that the BIOS allowed you to run them as 3200 ( simply upping the FSB from 166 to 200 turns the 2500 into a 3200 ) and I have had 4 such CPUs and only one had a few headaches, but this was simply down to needing me to up the Volts a notch.

I have a v1.2 Board too and all it needs is a BIOS update.
IIRC my v1.2 Mobo is running the 2500 @ 2.6 when I last looked ( Bios will still be the same of course )

Without doubt the most formidable combination was the DFI Lanparty Ultra B, in combination with an XPM 2500 and some very fast BH5 ram. The Abit NF2 was good, but could never match the Ultra B out of the box for FSB.

I had an XP 2700 (2.16GHz) and that was very nippy. It was also multiplier-unlocked - was this normal? I'm sure they were meant to be locked...

Shame the DFI boards died over time due to their crappy caps tho... I still have around 3! :(

True :D

But that was nearly always due to peeps running BH5 at 3.3Vdimm + on a 24/7 basis.

Once TCCD PC4800 running at 2.7Vdimm was on board, they Just run and run. I only sold my last Ultra B last year, and it is still going strong :)

Yeah, the only DFI I got now is my good old NF3 250UT and that clocks like a nutter, but alas, thats S754 so does not count.

As for the DFI v NF7 debate, this is true, but thats not to say the NF7 couldnt cope!!!

Sicne this post startd I have dug out my SktA Stuff and right as I type this, my XP17 is running at 2.8 ( I have a CPUZ Validated 3Ghz on that very chip ) and my XP2500 is also running a tidy 2.5 ( But rising )

Since I have not used these setups in over a year, Im not rushing the clocks

used to love my athlon mobile 2400 that ran happily forever at 2.5ghz

coupled with a modded 6800 with unlocked pipes it was easily the best bang for buck pc ive ever had. that cpu was beating most the 64bit ones in benchmarks for bloomin ages

Yes, and when I moved to my first 64Bit PC I too was not impressed and in fact took a drop in performance.

I went from the NF7S + [email protected] to an MSI Neo2 & Winchester 3200 and I was almost annoyed.

Dont get me wrong, I had tweaked the NF7 to absolute peak performance and it was ( Still is ) running a modded BIOS and then the A64 was just stock, but still, even with some tweaking, the Barton was still faster than it.

Im posting from an amd athlon64 3200 right now lol, 3 1/2 years its lasted me for £140 cpu price.
30 degrees idle 45 full load with stock cooler :)
Its Wedged on a ecs nforce 4 a939 mobo with a whopping 1gb ddr 400 mem

When i get a new build i might see how far i can push this before it fries.

Still have a Barton 2500 masquerading as a 3200 now...

My first watercooled overclock on this chip type got me to 2.59GHz which - as already posted - was faster than the initial AMD64s... legendary.
